Agile Processes in Software Engineering and Extreme Programming :20th International Conference, XP 2019, Montréal, QC, Canada, May 21–25, 2019, Proceedings
This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Agile Software Development, XP 2019, held in Montreal, QC, Canada, in May 2019. XP is the premier agile software development conference combining research and practice. It is a hybrid forum where agile researchers, academics, practitioners, thought leaders, coaches, and trainers get together to present and discuss their most recent innovations, research results, experiences, concerns, challenges, and trends. Following this history, for both researchers and seasoned practitioners XP 2019 provided an informal environment to network, share, and discover trends in Agile for the next 20 years The 15 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 45 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: agile adoption, agile practices; large-scale agile; agility beyond IT, and the future of agile. This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Agile Software Development, XP 2019, held in Montreal, QC, Canada, in May 2019. Philippe Kruchten is a retired professor of software engineering in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He had joined UBC in 2004 after a 30-year career in industry, where he worked mostly in with large, software-intensive systems design in the domains of telecommunication, defense, aerospace and transportation. Some of his experience is embodied in the Rational Unified Process (RUP) whose development he directed from 1996 until 2003, when Rational Software was bought by IBM. RUP includes an architectural design method, known as “RUP 4+1 views”. His current research interests still reside mostly with software architecture, and in particular architectural decisions and the decision process, and gthe elusive concept of "technical debt" . Dr. Kruchten received his mechanical engineering diploma from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, and his doctorate degree in Information Systems from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris. He is a member of IEEE, ACM and AIS, and a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

François Coallier is full professor at the Department of Software and IT Engineering at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), one of Canada's leading engineering school, affiliated to the Université du Québec network. He was CIO of ÉTS between 2010 and 2016 and the founding chair of ÉTS' Department of Software and IT Engineering from its creation in 2004 till 2010. He has nearly twenty-two years of industrial experience in one of Canada's largest companies, where he held various engineering and managerial positions in quality engineering, IT procurement, IT infrastructure deployment and operation and Enterprise Architecture Management. Dr. Coallier has been continuously involved in software and systems engineering standards development since 1984, when he started to contribute to the development of software engineering standards at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was the international Secretary of the Joint ISO and IEC subcommittee responsible for the elaboration of standards in Software and Systems Engineering (ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7) and its Chair from 1997 to 2017. Dr. Coallier is currently the international Chair of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC41, the subcommittee responsible for the elaboration of standards for Internet of Things and related areas since its creation in 2016. He is also a member of the Board of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and vice-chair of the Canadian JTC 1 mirror committee. François Coallier has a B.Sc. in Environmental Biology from McGill University, a B. Eng. in Engineering Physics and an M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Montréal's École Polytechnique. He is a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS), a Senior Member of the IEEE and an IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Member. Dr. Coallier was the recipient of the IEEE Computer Society 2015 Hans Karlsson Award in recognition of his contributions to international standards development.
