Enric Carreras, MD, PhD is a hematologist trained in the University of Barcelona and in the Hematology Department of the Clinic Hospital, under the direction of Professor Ciril Rozman. After the training period, he becomes member of the staff of the Stem Cell Transplantation (SCT) Unit were he was working from 1976 to 2010. In 1995, he becomes Director of the SCT Program at Clínic Hospital. In 2010 he moved to the José Carreras Foundation to become Director of the Spanish Bone Marrow Donor Program. His main research topics are the complications associated with SCT, mainly veno-occlusive disease, engraftment syndrome, thrombotic microangiopathy and graft versus host disease. Additionally, he was pioneering in autologous stem cell transplantation for amiloidosis, POEMS disease, and autoimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease) and in the at-home transplantation program. His basic research has been focused to the endothelial damage after stem cell transplantation. The close collaboration with Dra. Maribel Diaz Ricard, director of the Primary Hemostasis Lab at the Hospital Clínic, permitted them to create, in 2012, the Barcelona Endothelium Team.Enric Carreras, MD, PhD is a hematologist trained in the University of Barcelona and in the Hematology Department of the Clinic Hospital, under the direction of Professor Ciril Rozman.
