Haris Doukas(editor)

Dr. Haris Doukas is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has a degree in mechanical engineering (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – AUTH, 2003) and a PhD degree in the area of decision support systems for the sustainable energy sector’s operation (ECE, NTUA, 2009). His scientific and research expertise includes the development of models and decision support systems for energy and environmental policy. He has participated, as an expert, in the design of energy policies, programs promoting renewables and energy efficiency and specific energy management actions in a local, national and European level. In addition, he has participated as an expert in respective initiatives, beyond Europe, among which in the countries of the Mediterranean basin and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. In the abovementioned fields, he has more than 100 scientific publications in international scientific journals with reviewers, one Book titled “Decision Support Policy Models for Energy and Environmental Systems” as well as numerous presentations in international conferences, chapters, articles in technical books and magazines respectively. In addition, Dr. Doukas is an Associate Editor of the Operational Research International Journal (ORIJ) of Springer, and participates as member of the Editorial Board in Journals related with the energy policy and operational research. This open access book analyzes and seeks to consolidate the use of robust quantitative tools and qualitative methods for the design and assessment of energy and climate policies. In particular, it examines energy and climate policy performance and associated risks, as well as public acceptance and portfolio analysis in climate policy, and presents methods for evaluating the costs and benefits of flexible policy implementation as well as new framings for business and market actors. In turn, it discusses the development of alternative policy pathways and the identification of optimal switching points, drawing on concrete examples to do so. Lastly, it discusses climate change mitigation policies’ implications for the agricultural, food, building, transportation, service and manufacturing sectors.
