Stephen Myers (Editor)
ADAM SA Geneva, Switzerland. Stephan Myers was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and worked at CERN, Geneva, from 1972 until 2015. He was responsible for the commissioning and the energy upgrade of the CERN Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP). In 2008, he was nominated CERN Director of Accelerators and Technology until January 2014; during this time, he directed the repair of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) after the serious accident and steered the operation of the collider in 2010, 2011, and 2012. On July 4, 2012, the data from the collider allowed the discovery of a “Higgs” boson for which Peter Higgs and Francois Engelert received the Nobel Physics Prize in 2013. He is currently executive chair of a Geneva-based company (ADAM SA), which is developing a linear accelerator for proton therapy of cancer, and non- executive Director of the parent company Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO).ADAM SA Geneva, Switzerland. Particle Physics Reference Library
This third open access volume of the handbook series deals with accelerator physics, design, technology and operations, as well as with beam optics, dynamics and diagnostics. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the “Particle Physics Reference Library” provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A,B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access.
